Gdynia is known of its many tourist attractions. One of the most important is the wooden pier in the southern city district - Orłów. Already in 1934 the first pier being 115 meters long was created. The construction lasted only two months using simple methods. After five years the pier was lenghtened to 430 m and it played role of the haven for ships. After Second World War the pier was destroyed by the storm and shortened to 180 meters. Between 2006 and 2007 the complex modernisation was conducted. As part of the project a new construction was made and the woodenpiles were strenghtened with the steel rims.
On a pier we can notice Cypel Redłowski - the most front-end part of Kępa Radłowska. At the foot of the headland there are: Spa House, replica of Christ figure, cafe "Domek Żeromskiego" and Mini Open-Air Museum of the Sea Fishing. Nearby in the summer for two months opens the Summer Stage of the City Theatre. Just in front of the pier there's a bench with the sculpture of Anyoni Suchan - painter who lived in Gdynia Orłów district right after the war.
In Gdynia you can see and visit much more than just the pier. Among the attractions thare's also a Gdynia aquarium, museum of the Gdynia city, Gdynia torpedownia, naval museum, Pomeranian science and technology park, ship-museum Dar Pomorza.
